Eye findings have been reported in up to 50-80% of the
patients with TSC. The retinal lesions of TSC are hamartomas
(elevated mulberry lesions or plaque-like lesions) and
white depigmented patches (similar to the hypopigmented
skin lesions). Most retinal hamartomas remain dormant,
thus patients with retinal lesions seldom develop progressive
visual loss. Occurrence of visual loss due to retinal
detachment, vitreous hemorrhage, or hamartoma enlargement
is rare. Hypopigmented areas of the retina, iris and even
the eyelashes have also been reported.
