Please join us for an informational session and enjoyable gathering Saturday March 22, 2008 10:30 AM-1:30 PM Children’s Hospital Boston Enders Building, Byers Conference Room 300 Longwood Ave, Boston MA SCHEDULE 10:30-11:00 Introductions Mustafa Sahin, MD, PhD, Director of the Multi-Disciplinary Tuberous Sclerosis Program at Children’s Hospital Boston Karin Sullivan, Chair of the TS Alliance of New England. 11:00-11:45 Presentation on Autism in TSC: by Charles Nelson, PhD. Dr. Nelson is the Director of Research in the Developmental Medicine Center, Children’s Hospital Boston.Dr. Nelson is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of developmental cognitive neuroscience, where he has achieved numerous breakthroughs in broadening scientific understanding of brain and behavioral development during infancy and childhood. Dr. Nelson chaired the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Early Experience and Brain Development and was an author of the National Academy of Sciences report, From Neurons to Neighborhood, which called on the nation to bolster its investment in programs promoting healthy childhood development. He has consulted with policy makers, including a recent address to congress at the invitation of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. He has published over 130 peer reviewed journal articles, nearly 50 book chapters, has edited 8 books and written 2 books. 12:00-12:45 Lunch- sponsored by the Multi-Disciplinary Tuberous Sclerosis Program at Children’s Hospital Boston 12:45-1:30 Presentation on Sleep Disorders in TSC: by Sanjeeve Kothare, MD Dr. Kothare is the Associate Director, Sleep Center for Children, Children's Hospital Boston. Dr. Kothare did his residency training in pediatric neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and his fellowship in Epilepsy, EEG and Sleep Disorders at Duke University Medical Center. He was director of the Pediatric Epilepsy Program at the St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia before being recruited to Boston in 2007. He has published over 60 peer reviewed journal articles on areas such as Epilepsy, Neuro-radiology, and Pediatric Sleep Disorders. Dr. Kothare is trained in both sleep and epilepsy, so he is particularly well qualified to address sleep issues in children with tuberous sclerosis. Childcare: will be provided by Children’s Hospital staff and volunteers.The children’s room will be monitored by a nurse.***Parents are ultimately responsible for their children’s needs and welfare. Take the right fork marked Boylston Street, Outbound. Bear right onto Boylston Street. At the fourth set of traffic lights (a major intersection), bear left onto Brookline Avenue. Follow Brookline Ave past Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center- East Campus to the 2nd set of lights Turn left onto Longwood Avenue. Children’s is two blocks down on the right.Parking is across the street on the left. From the South Via Route 1, continue to the Jamaicaway. Via Routes 28 or 138, proceed via Morton Street and the Arborway to the Jamaicaway. Continue on the Jamaicaway (as it turns into the Riverway) to the traffic light at Brookline Avenue. Turn right onto Brookline Avenue. Continue to the third traffic light and turn right onto Longwood Avenue. Children’s is two blocks down on the right.Parking is across the street on the left. From the West: Via Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) take Exit 22 (Copley Square/Prudential). Follow the left lane, labeled Prudential Center, onto Huntington Avenue heading west. Continue down Huntington, passing the Museum of Fine Arts on the right. Turn right onto Longwood Avenue and continue past Harvard Medical School. Children’s is two blocks down on the left.Parking is across the street on the right. Via Route 128 Exit at Route 9 East.Follow Route 9 East to Brookline Village. After passing the fire station on the right, at the next large intersection (at the Brook House apartments) take a left onto Brookline Avenue. Proceed through four traffic lights to the Longwood Avenue intersection. Turn right onto Longwood Avenue.
